Tone Pattern
||: AB :|| X (must follow B)
Please note that while the other tones we use at All Saints for troparia are in the common chant, we use the Abbreviated Greek chant for Tone 4. The reason for this is that the common chant tone 4 is very monotonous when sung in unison! So all of these resources will be for the Abbr. Greek chant.
The tone pattern is the same for both, however - alternate between AB, conclude with X (which must come after a B). This means if you don't have the right number of lines in your verse, you might need to split one into two.
Model Melody: Our own parish kontakion ("Like bright stars in the sky of the long northern night"), the resurrectional troparion ("When the women disciples of the Lord...") or the Nativity of Christ troparion ("Thy Nativity O Christ our God...") are all great examples to memorize as a memory cue. My apologies for not having an audio file for you as I couldn't find one with the Greek chant.
